English

In English, we explore different genres of writing through a High Quality Text that is closely linked to our Enquiry that term.

Over the year, we will look at picture books, poetry, non-fiction texts and short novels to use as high quality models of writing from a variety of modern and classic authors.

Autumn 1

The Night Shimmy by Gwen Strauss & Anthony Browne

This text links beautifully to our Enquiry for the term 'Do all heroes wear capes?' Our main character becomes his own hero when he puts on his hat, cape and mask to become his imaginary friend - The Night Shimmy. It takes him finding a real life friend to be brave enough to leave the Night Shimmy behind!

This half term we will be writing:

  • Character descriptions
  • Setting descriptions
  • Recounts
  • Diaries

Autumn 2

The Tear Thief by Carol Ann Duffy

The title suggests that there is something villainous about this book but if we look closer, you might find that there is more to this character than meets the eye - that is if you can spot her reflection in the puddles on the dusky streets!

This half term we will be writing:
