Curriculum
Within Nursery, our curriculum is taught across the year through our three enquiries. These are underpinned by the seven EYFS statutory areas of learning. The enquiries all have an overarching question which the children work towards answering, these are developed by driving and enhancing subjects. In addition our enquiries connect to our 6A curriculum principles, and shape the way the enquiries are planned and delivered.
Autumn Term - What Makes a Community?
For our first enquiry, the children will study 'What Makes a Community?' exploring where they live and belong within the community of Hucknall. They will look at local features, engage in map work and explore people who help them within the local area. Our enquiry intends to inspire and develop the children's aspirations, through the exploration of professions. We ensure that throughout we promote the importance of diversity and differences in gender, broadening the children's understanding beyond potential stereotypes. Our aim is to widen the children’s knowledge of society, discovering the community outside of their familiar environment to learn how community connects us and to develop an understanding and knowledge of the wider world and what it offers. Alongside this, the children will develop their artistic skills and will work collaboratively on a mural to celebrate our local community and draw their learning together in their final outcome.
Our Key Enquiry Texts
Throughout the enquiry we will study the key texts below, we aim to ensure the texts we choose are high-quality and engage the children in their current learning. These books provide a fantastic connection to the content taught and are a fantastic resource to further explore at home.
