Curriculum
Within Foundation Two, our curriculum is taught across the year through our three enquiries. These are underpinned by the seven EYFS statutory areas of learning. The enquiries all have an overarching question which the children work towards answering, these are developed by driving and enhancing subjects. In addition our enquiries connect to our 6A curriculum principles, and shape the way the enquiries are planned and delivered.
Autumn Term - How can we make a difference?
For our first enquiry, the children will uncover, 'How can we make a difference?' This learning is delivered through their Understanding of the World, focusing on geographical knowledge. The children will explore a world map and identify our city Nottingham within the United Kingdom. The children will go on an adventure to a local forest and compare this to the contrasting environment in Brazil: The Amazon Rainforest. When identifying their similarities and differences, the children will uncover the devastating effects of deforestation and seek to find a solution to the long lasting damage that is being created to our natural world. Our enquiry intends to inspire and motivate the children to become activists who protect and nurture our planet. We ensure that the children develop a sense of responsibility and self-worth, believing that they are never too small to make a difference. The children will work towards creating recycling bin monsters to combat paper waste and recycling across our school community and spread awareness to those we meet.
Our Key Enquiry Texts
Throughout the enquiry we will study the key texts below, we aim to ensure the texts we choose are high-quality and engage the children in their current learning. These books provide a fantastic connection to the content taught and are a fantastic resource to further explore at home.
