Enquiry Curriculum
At Hucknall Flying High, we use the model of the 6As to form our curriculum principles and support the delivery of an enquiry approach. The journey begins in Early Years and is implemented throughout school to ensure a carefully planned and progressive curriculum is in place. This provides opportunities to build upon prior learning, revisit it, consolidate it and make connections to fuel future learning. Ultimately, ensuring the children know and remember more. Our principles ensure that we promote an ethic of excellence, through our aspirational environments and curriculum to enable our children to thrive. Below you will find information on how the 6As are embedded within our Early Years curriculum, an overview of our Enquiry projects and a gallery of authentic and inspirational learning.

Authenticity
Our children have worked towards independent and collaborative pieces of work that are a result of their enquiry following questions such as 'What Makes a Community?' or 'How Can We Make a Change?' and often have a social or moral impact and message. Below are some of our final outcomes.
Applied Learning
There are plentiful opportuntuies to further explore learning within the high-quality and stimulating environment. Our enhanced provision provides the children with hands-on learning experiences that directly links to their current or previous learning. This provision has been carefully crafted by the practitioner to provide a specific learning intention, the children are then free to utilise, explore and develop their independent learning with adults on hand to scaffold and support where required.
Active Learning
We plan for our children to engage in as many trips, events and experiences as possible. We want them to actively involve themselves in learning and aim to broaden their learning through physical opportunities. We aim to take trips termly linked to our current learning. Previously, the children have visited places such as Sherwood Forest, Gladstone Pottery Museum, The Tropical Butterfly Centre and The Sealife Centre. We plan where possible to always expose the children to learning outside of the classroom.
Adult Connections
We ensure our children have the opportunity to engage with a range of experts and experiences to further inspire and extend their learning. Ultimately, we want to ensure we look wider than the classroom when immersing the children, therefore, we plan for adults to visit our setting, collaborate with them at events or take trips to see them actively engaging in their role.
Academic Rigour
We utilise the Flying High Trust 'Key Knowledge Progression Document' alongside 'Development Matters' to craft our curriculum knowledge and content. We ensure that all seven statutory areas of study are planned for and covered within both the adult-led sessions and the learning environment we have created.
In addition, we follow all guidance as outlined in the EYFS Framework and ensure that we are up to date with new reading, research and amendments.
