Music expresses that which cannot be said and on
which it is impossible to be silent.
At Hucknall Flying High Academy is a research-led, authentic and memorable subject. it promotes an excellence and enjoyment that results in a lifelong love and understanding of how music impacts on our lives and the world that we live in as well as our won health and wellbeing. Singing is the heart of our school; its interwoven into school life, celebrations and wider community opportunities. there is a clear progression within singing across the primary age range and children experiences a breadth of styles. opportunities to perform, create and collaborate are plentiful, developmental, authentic and memorable.
All children have the opportunity to learn an instrument and have a high quality experiences in ensembles and as a whole class. the develop listening and collaborate skills through working together, creating, performing and celebrating their outcomes.
Further to this, our 6A curriculum principles underpin the foundations of our music curriculum with the children experiencing academic rigour through the planned content, authentic experiences and connections with expert musicians and visits to performance spaces. Alongside, active learning through hands-on exploration of instruments whilst opportunities are built in for the children to apply their learning to an authentic purpose and compose and perform teacher and student lead piece to both peers and the community.
Our music curriculum aims are;
- perform, listen to, review and evaluate music across a range of historical periods, genres, styles and traditions, including the works of great composers and musicians.
- learn to sing and to use voices, to create and compose music of their own and with others., have the opportunity to learn a musical instrument, use technology appropriately and have the opportunity to progress to the next level of musical excellence.
- understand and explore how music is created, produced and communicated, including through the interrelated dimensions: pitch, duration, dynamics, tempo, timbre , texture, structure and appropriate musical notations.
