History
Look back with pride and forward with confidence.
At Hucknall Flying High, we believe that every child is a historian. We have designed a History curriculum that provides all children to have plentiful opportunities to embark on their own journeys of understanding the world we live in. Our curriculum strives to develops children's confidence, analytical skills to empower them to look forward with pride and backwards with confidence.
Further to this, our 6A curriculum principles underpin the foundations of our History curriculum with the children experiencing academic rigour through the planned content, authentic experiences such visits to historical places of significance and historical workshops. Alongside, active learning through hands on explorations of historical artefacts whilst authentic purpose are planned out for all enquiry outcomes to provide children with the opportunity to become real historians. Each historical enquiry ends in a showcase which provides the children with the opportunity to display there understanding of their over-arching enquiry question.

This has been planned out using the Flying High Trust Knowledge Progression Documentation to formulate the projects for each year.
Hucknall Flying High Academy Lesson Design Matrix
Through our teaching, we aim to equip children with the skills, knowledge and understanding necessary to be able to make informed choices and apply their learning to new contexts. Children are empowered to reach their full potential academically in order to prepare them for the future.
A researched based 'Teaching and Learning' model has been created and implemented across the whole school. The implementation of our lesson design ensures their is a consistent approach to high quality teaching and learning throughout and all pupils achieve the best possible outcomes regardless of ability and/or other factors.
Our lesson design is not to be seen and used as a rigid framework, but as a fluid model. A session would typically begin with a 'Reactivate', followed by the 'Teach, Facilitate, Model'. From the point, staff have the flexibility to navigate the model, as they deem appropriate.
