Our Maths focus this week will be based on the 'numbers 1-5'. Your child will explore a number each day, looking at it in depth. They will practise recognising the numeral and its number formation. 

Week Beginning: 06.07.2020

Our Maths focus this week will be based on 'more and less' as well as 'estimation'. Last weeks learning on sharing lends itself well into this week, where your child will begin to explore two groups and compare their amount. They will look at estimation through visually identifying groups which have more and less. Before, moving onto comparing numerals using a number line to identify larger and smaller amounts.

Our Maths focus this week will be focusing on the shape, space and measure aspect of the EYFS curriculum, with a focus on sharing. Your child will begin by exploring the concept of sharing items equally, before moving onto studying half. They will then look at identifying and solving problems with the introduction of odd numbers. It will provide your child will plenty of opportunities to develop their problem solving and perseverance skills, enabling them to think critically about how they can tackle their learning. 

Week Beginning: 22.06.2020

Our Maths focus this week will be focusing on the shape, space and measure aspect of the EYFS curriculum, with a focus on repeating patterns. The children will explore what a pattern is and what makes a repeating pattern. They will continue pre-made patterns and learn how to create their own. The children will begin to learn how patterns can be created using many different items and materials as well as how they can be categorised. E.g: by colour or shape etc

Week Beginning: 15.06.2020

This week your child will revisit and practise their counting skills. Similar to previous work on counting skills, they will explore different principles and skills. Use this week to again observe the way your child works with numbers. If there is a particular skill that they are not yet confident with, continue to practise this daily. 

Week Beginning: 08.06.2020

Our Maths focus this week will be focusing on the shape, space and measure aspect of the EYFS curriculum, with a focus on positional language. The children will explore what the term positional means and the different vocabulary associated with positions. The children will have a deeper understanding of words such as under, in, over, behind and will practise learning about their meaning within their play.

If there is a particular skill that they are not yet confident with continue to practise this daily.  All of these principles will continue to be build upon and developed next year.

Our Maths focus this week will encourage the children to continue practising and exploring how to group objects. The children will begin to consider how things are the same and others different. They will learn how collections of the same item can be sorted in different ways through size, colour etc.  Enjoy this weeks activities and have fun learning together!

All of the Maths activities set will now be posted weekly. Our Maths focus this week will encourage the children to begin comparing numbers 1-10 with an emphasis on exploring more and less.
